Wow! Where has the time gone.

I don't know what is happening to my summer, but if someone could let me know when it starts, that'd be great! Kay? Thanks!

Anywho, we three are doing well. Dorian had his first swimming class last night, which was completely terrible. Dorian pretty much hates the water. Let me correct that, he hates baths. The water is only terrible because he thinks you might be getting ready to wash his hair. I thought maybe a swimming class would help him like the water more in preparation for our yearly trip to Michigan.

So, Trevor took off work slightly early so that he could come with us to the first class, which was supposed to meet at 4:30. Can I just stop here and say how I have the best husband in the world, and how cute it was that he finished all his stuff early so that he could go with us? He is fabulous. Anyhow, class at 4:30. We get there at 4:25 and head to the pool. There is another mom with 2 little ones (37 months and 25 months - better her than me, that's all I have to say). Time passes. No swim class. Time passes. Nothing but her and us in the water with the kiddos. It is nearly 5:00. Class is supposed to be over at 5:00. Now, lest I give you the wrong impression, I actually love the rec center where the classes are held. I take yoga there on Tuesday nights and the yoga class is absolutely beyond fabulous. The instructor is great, the space is beautiful and it is all around wonderful. But . . . the swimming class is not going as well. A little before 5, Trevor goes to the front desk and asks about it. Apparently, they changed the class to 5:30. Now, again, I have to fully disclose here. They did call me to confirm the class last week and, on the message, it sounded vaguely like the lady said 5:30. But she didn't mention it specifically as a change in time, the sound was fuzzy on the message and I frankly thought it was just a mistake. Nope, no mistake. The other mom never even got a call about the time change. Needless to say, we were slightly miffed.

The good news was, all that time in the water was good for Dorian. By the time class actually did start, he was walking between Trevor and I and letting Trevor chase him a little. Once class started though, it was a whole different story. The teacher really wasn't stellar with him, in my opinion. The other kids were all older than Dor, and she spoke to him in a way that he couldn't really understand. Plus she splashed water directly in his face and wanted to try and push him to lay on his tummy in the water and things like that. I am not a "let's force the kid to do things while he's terrified" kind of mom, so that didn't make me too happy. I still think that it is good that he did so well in the water before class. That felt like progress. So, I'm going to call them this morning and cancel the rest of the class, but Trevor and I are going to use our kiddie pool, and the pool in my parent's townhouse complex, to play with him some more. I think he'll be fine. And maybe we'll try the swimming lessons next year. I really did expect the kids to be younger, so maybe next year when he's a bit older, things will go better.

In other news, I have yet another job. Cuz I needed more to do. Ahem. I will be teaching Literature and Culture at Avila this fall. Avila, for those of you who don't know, is a small, Catholic, liberal arts college that is, conveniently, right down the street from my house. It is a very different sort of environment from UMKC, so it will give me a great opportunity to see how I like teaching somewhere else. I am excited to have the opportunity and extra excited because they seem thrilled to have me there, and it is always nice to feel welcome.

Anyway, on to the pics. These are from a few weeks ago. Thanks to my Mom for taking the pictures!
