Happy Halloween!

This isn't actually his costume - he has a shark costume that I will post pics of soon, but he wore this for most of the day today and looked too cute!

My Husband Keeps Complaining about the Lack of Pictures

I know, I know. I'm behind with the pics. Seems like August has been a whirlwind. Here are some pics of the cutie patootie though!

Dorian's Life

Here are some slices of our day to day life with Dorian. These include his funny face-plant crawl, his love of the high chair and being mauled with kisses by the puppies. It's a rough life, but we're glad to say he's up to the challenge.

On What Happens When the Whole Family is Sick

We have all come down with a horrible cold. Here is what happened.

Friday night. Baby wakes up every two hours crying. This is not normal. Baby is not his usual happy, sleepy self. He is immune to the soothing comfort of nursing. I say to Trevor, "I think he is sick." Trevor says, "Meh, he's fine." Easy for the person who does not have to wake up and attempt to nurse the crying baby to say so. But with no real symptoms and no way for baby to tell us what is wrong, I assume Trevor is right.

Saturday morning. He seems fine but when we go out he sleeps the entire time - four hours. Not normal. By the time we get home it is clear the little guy has a cold. When he's not asleep, he is inconsolable.

Sunday morning. Smiling baby. Infant cold meds have given us our happy little guy back. Yay!

Sunday afternoon. I begin to feel crappy. Grrrr.

Sunday night. Trevor says "I don't know why my allergies got so bad all of the sudden." I sleep on the couch because he is snoring.

Monday morning. Most definitely not allergies. Trevor and I are both dying. He stays home from work and we try to alternate who feels the worst so that one of us can play with the baby while the other one suffers.

Fast forward to Wednesday. Trevor and I are better, but still suffering. I have to say, despite my bitterness about getting the cold at all, I am glad that the baby has had the mildest case of it and was on the mend almost immediately. Wish I could say the same for the rest of us.

Anyway, moving on to the good stuff. I am woefully behind on pictures.

Update

Cutest baby butt ever.

The little guy is doing great. His 2 month check-up is tomorrow. I expect he will get a clean bill of health from the doctor. We are going to a new doctor because our original pediatrician's office basically blew me off when I went there with some concerns. I realize I am a first-time mom, but I am not crazy and I do know enough about what I'm doing that I don't need some pompous doctor being patronizing to me. So, that said, we are going to my family care doctor, the one who I've seen for, like, 20 years. Yay! He can never retire. Never!

I gave Dorian a bath tonight and, as I lotioned him up post-bath, I kept inhaling his lovely baby scent. That scent is like a drug. Seriously.

We're getting lots of smiles from him these days. Real smiles too, not gas smiles. He likes to watch Baby Einstein DVD's and if you read him a book, he will look at the pages as though they really do fascinate him.

He's also getting greater hand control, at least according to Trevor, who just told me Dorian is now intentionally pinching his nipples.

Maybe I've said this already, but it's worth repeating. I have the best, sweetest, cutest baby ever!

Dorian at 2 Months

It's hard to believe that Dorian is 2 months old today!

At 2 months, he is the happiest baby! The only time he fusses is when he's hungry and then he's so funny - he gets frantic to be fed! He often tries to chomp on Trevor while he's waiting for me to get comfortable and get my nursing pillow all arranged.

He is so much more alert now! He loves to look at things - especially light fixtures. He's also smiling more now. When I shake his rattle at him or put him down on his play mats, he smiles at the music and the noises. The most lovely thing though is when he smiles at me. We sing silly songs, or I'll stick my tongue out at him and he'll grin. Sometimes in the morning, after I nurse him, I'll pull my knees up and lay him on them so we can look at each other. His eyes get big and he studies my face and opens his eyes wide as if to say, "hey, I know you! You're my momma!" Then he smiles and I just melt.

He loves his swing. Although it usually puts him to sleep, he spends more time in it now watching the little bugs and leaves rotate around and looking at himself in the mirror above his head.

He's getting so big! Dorian's outgrown Newborn and size 1 diapers, and is now on size 2! He's about 14 pounds and such an adorable chunk!
